Beecher City Journal: Volume 98, NO. 17

It’s the dawn of a new era in trash collection in Beecher City.
No longer will the Doty Sanitation Service workers have to lift the heavy cans and dump their contents into the back of the garbage truck.
The Beecher City business has made a sizeable investment in new trash collection technology…. and it is the truck that will do the heavy lifting. The new $325,000 Mac LE frontloaded truck equipped with a Slammin’ Eagle Curotto-Can will be at work in Beecher City this week. Doty Sanitation is the first company in the county to invest in this new technology and the Village of Beecher City will be the testing ground as Doty Sanitation workers get familiar with its operation. “It will take us a few years to get all the routes switched over,” said owner David Doty.
Every household in town was issued a wheeled 96-gallon toter Aug. 30, and starting Friday the new truck will be in service in the village. The truck operates with just the driver who works the controls inside the truck to lift the toter and dump its contents into the Curotto-Can at the front of the truck. When the Curotto-Can gets full, the operator raises it up to dump the contents into the main hopper of the truck.
Customers will need to adhere to a few guidelines to make this system work. They are to use the orange toter only; Doty Sanitation will not pick up any garbage not in the toter. All contents inside the toter must be bagged. And the toters need to be placed curbside with the lid opening facing the street.
Toters can be placed curbside after 8 p.m. Thursday and should be back in garages or wherever, away from the curb, by 8 p.m. Friday. They need to be curbside and ready for pickup by 6 a.m. Doty said the new toters are pretty stable and will be difficult for animals to knock over. “More than likely there won’t be a problem with putting the toters out the night before (trash collection day),” he added.
Doty Sanitation retains ownership of the toters, each of which has an assigned serial number. Customers who feel they need an additional toter to meet their weekly garbage needs can request one; however there is an additional charge of $8 per month for the second toter.
Doty Sanitation sought a current and responsive website that matched their innovative waste management solution and selected Blue Stingray Digital Agency www.bluestingray.com to develop the new website. The new website is clean and easy to navigate as well as having mobile views for handheld web browsing devices.
The new Doty Sanitation website launched in January, 2014.
Blue Stingray analyzed Doty’s web presence goals while reviewing local and national waste management competitors before designing the website. The new website is competitive within the national corporate waste management industry by allowing the user to easily find Doty’s services and capabilities from desktop or mobile devices.
